Ferry & delivery flights

Ferry flight and aircraft delivery support

Deliveries, lease returns, repositioning and maintenance ferry flights rarely follow a regular route. We plan the routing and fuel stops, and arrange every permit, handler and hotel along the way.

01Flights we support

Non-revenue flights of every kind, including:

  • New aircraft deliveries from the manufacturer to the operator
  • Lease returns and redeliveries between operators
  • Repositioning flights for seasonal or charter operations
  • Maintenance ferry flights to and from MRO facilities
  • Aircraft moving to storage or between owners after a sale

02Routing and fuel stops

A ferry flight is often longer than the aircraft's usual sectors, sometimes across oceans or through regions the operator does not normally fly. Our dispatchers plan the routing against the aircraft's range and performance, the crew's duty limits and the airports available along the way. They choose fuel stops where fuel, handling and opening hours can be confirmed in advance.

For twin-engine aircraft on oceanic or remote routes, the planning includes ETOPS/EDTO alternates and the critical fuel scenarios. For oceanic crossings, it includes the track system, required equipment and communications.

03Permits for ferry and delivery flights

Ferry and delivery flights are non-scheduled and often non-revenue, which places them in a different permit category from scheduled services in many countries. An aircraft on a temporary or transferred registration, or flying under a special flight permit, may need documents that the authority does not usually see. We check the requirement in every country on the routing and file the overflight permits and landing permits with the right documents.

04Handling, fuel and crew logistics

Along the route, we arrange:

  • Ground handling and fuel at every stop
  • Crew hotels for rest stops, and transport
  • Crew visas, and travel for positioning crews
  • Navigation charge administration for the flights flown

Our OCC follows the flight throughout and re-plans if weather, a technical issue or a closed airport changes the route.

05Frequently asked questions

What is a ferry flight?

A non-revenue flight to move an aircraft, for example to a maintenance facility, a new operator, storage or the start of a charter. It carries no paying passengers or cargo.

Do ferry flights need overflight and landing permits?

Usually, yes. Many countries require permits for non-scheduled flights, and ferry flights on temporary registrations or special flight permits may need additional documents.

Can you plan the fuel stops for a delivery flight?

Yes. We plan the routing against the aircraft's range, the crew's duty limits and the airports where fuel and handling can be confirmed.

Airport services, opening hours and local requirements change. This page is a general guide: our OCC confirms the arrangements for every request before you fly.

Planning your next trip?

Send us the routing, aircraft and schedule. Our 24/7 OCC confirms what each stop needs and arranges it in one trip file, from permits to hotels.
